The next local Zeitgeist Chapter meeting is this Sunday @ the Phoenix Café @ 12:30 PM.

The meetings usually go from 12:30 – 3:30, although, some chapter members have shown interest in attending the below Occupy Detroit rally. That being said, we will do everything in our power to get the priority Z meeting topics out of the way before 1:30 so we can shoot down to the D to join the Occupy Movement.

Since we will be short on time we will begin the meeting at 12:30 SHARP, so if you plan on attending and contributing please show up a little early (doors open at 12).

How’s life treating you lately? Are you content? How’s the family, prosperous & stress free? If you’re like a majority of the people walking this earth these days, things aren’t so pleasant. Due to the ridiculous social stratification plaguing the world life is much more challenging than it could be. So… what are we going to do about it?

Enter: The Zeitgeist Movement.

I’m sure most of you know what The Zeitgeist Movement is, but just in case: The members of The Zeitgeist Movement are fully aware and confident that an abundance of food, housing, education, transportation, healthcare and energy is not an idealistic dream, but is completely feasible through a Resource Based Economy. Our current social structure IS paralyzing human growth personally, socially, technologically, and spiritually! We also understand that being critical of the current system without having an underlying vision and a potential direction and solution, is mere complaint. The Zeitgeist Movement offers both critique and possible solutions, as well as being open to other possibilities to improve life on earth.

So… our goal is to educate humanity of the possibilities that exist, what better time and location to educate the masses than at a protest of the current social structure (Occupy Movement!)? What better place than Detroit (The Labor Legacy Monument just inside Hart Plaza @ Woodward & Jefferson), what better time that this Friday @ 5:00 PM? The actual Occupy Detroit gathering is at the Spirit of Detroit Statue and begins at 4:00 PM; the march to Grand Circus Park starts at 6:00 PM, so you may want to get there early.

At one point you cared enough to put your name down on this mailing list. At one point there was a fire in your heart and rage against the system. If there was ever a time for you to channel your frustration into a positive situation, this Friday is it! We’re as mad as hell and we’re not going to take this anymore!

This is a call to action for all of the local Zeitgeist Community and anyone for that matter! JOIN US THIS FRIDAY to stand in solidarity with the Occupy Movement! We have two large banners and pockets full of educational postcards which we will be marching and educating with. We are going to meet at the Labor Legacy Monument in Heart Plaza; once we unite we will then merge with the Occupy Movement.

Please email with any questions. If you’re a 9 – 5er, don’t fret, just catch up with us! We’ll be the thousands of people walking up Woodward from Jefferson to Grand Circus Park, and then occupying the Park for the foreseeable future. If you can’t make it on Friday, come Saturday, Sunday, next week, whenever!

First and foremost we’d like to thank all of the individuals that helped out and/or stopped by our booth at Dally in the Alley! We would also like to welcome all of the new recipients to our e-newsletter, thank you for joining the list!

Dally was not only a great time, but also a huge success. We handed out approximately (200+) copies of Zeitgeist: Addendum & Zeitgeist: Moving Forward. We also raised some funds to help purchase supplies for the next event. Another quick shout-out to John & Angela for bringing down the extra copies of the movies! Thanks again everyone!

The next event(s) that are planned for our chapter are as follows:

Third Wed Movie Night is cancelled this month, our apologies. We will be discussing the movie night situation during the next meeting.

S.E. MI local Zeitgeist Chapter - Sept Update

Hello, we hope the summer is treating you well!

The S.E. MI local Zeitgeist events that are happening in the foreseeable future are as follows:

This Saturday September 10^th:

The next meeting is going to take place at the next festival tabling in an effort to get more attendance at our Z booth. That being said, we are going to be tabling the Dally in the Alley Festival this Saturday the 10^th (or if it rains on Saturday it is postponed until Sunday the 11^th). The meeting itself will not be the typical “sit down and discuss the future of our chapter” style meeting. Due to the fact that we are tabling yet another festival we will be introducing the movement to festival attendees more than discussing future plans. Since we are not having the typical meeting this month we are hoping that more of you will be willing to lend a small amount of time to the Zeitgeist booth.

We will be located in the non-profit vendor area (We believe it’s zone 4). Can’t wait to see you there!

Dally History -

What began as an inner city art fair in 1977 evolved into a performing arts festival when it was moved to its present alley and renamed in 1982 to “DALLY IN THE ALLEY”, the title of a medieval drinking song. Great musical talent, good beer and a remarkable string of fabulous September weather has indelibly marked the alley at Second and Forest in Detroit’s Cass Corridor as the site of the best music festival in the Midwest.

Gary Grimshaw designed the first Dally poster in 1982, featuring Brian Taylor’s dancing cats, replicas of which grace a garage wall at Third and Forest . Gary also created the 1986 and 1997 posters. Other recent Dally poster artists include Steven Goodfellow (1996), Glen Barr (1998), Kevin Stanislowski (1999), Mary Iverson (2000), Jerome Ferretti (2001), and Shades (2002). The 2005 Dally Poster was designed by Mark Heggie.

The Dally expanded beyond its original alley to include Forest Avenue in 1997 and added the Urban Electronica stage on Second Avenue in 1999. The skateboard ramps of 1999 were subsequently banned by the police department, but new and weird events are added every year.

Both the quality and quantity of the food and art vendors has significantly improved since our 1977 beginnings, and more than 100 participants sell food, beer and things one can only find in the Cass Corridor.

Third Wednesday the 21^st:

Third Wednesday Free Movie Nights! We will be deciding the exact movie during the above event.

We had a great time at the Ferndale Green Cruise, thank you to all that attended!

Just as a reminder our “Third Wednesday Free Movie Night” is tomorrow @ the Phoenix Café. The doors open at 7:00 PM, the movie starts at 7:30.

This is the re-scheduling of: “Burzynski: the Movie” which is the story of a medical doctor and Ph.D biochemist named Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski who won the largest, and possibly the most convoluted and intriguing legal battle against the Food & Drug Administration in American history. Regardless if you plan on joining us or not; if you know of anyone suffering from this awful ailment please share this documentary with them.

Also, our first Sunday monthly meeting is going to be postponed due to Labor Day weekend falling on the first weekend and a possible festival that we are most likely exhibiting at (Dally in the Alley) on the second weekend. We will announce the meeting schedule after we discuss our options at tomorrow’s movie night.

Breaking News!

A member of the S.E. MI Zeitgeist Movement (Rob N.) will be giving a lecture on Achieving Global Sustainability through a Resource Based Economy at the Ferndale Live Green Fair this Saturday!

This will take place at 8:30 pm this Saturday, July 16th at the Affirmation's Stage in Ferndale. The stage is located one block west of Woodward on Nine Mile Rd.

Please support your fellow Zeitgeist member by showing up for the lecture and possibly helping out afterwards by talking to any interested participants. If you can, bring some printed Zeitgeist information to pass out!

Following are the next few events related to the local Zeitgeist Chapter here in S.E. MI.

This Sunday, June 26th!

You are invited to visit the Detroit River Days Festival this Sunday so that we can continue to spread the word and have some fun while we're at it.

Where: Detroit River Walk Area

Date: Sunday, June 26th

Time: By 2:00 p.m., meet at the Phoenix Cafe so that we can car pool or meet us at Hart Plaza at 3:00 within the circular Labor Legacy Landmark (the big circle in the middle of Hart Plaza).

Cost: $3.00 admission and $10 all day parking if you wish to drive separately.

Bring: Please help print the Zeitgeist postcards/ fliers to pass out. Also, if you can burn and bring some DVDs, that would be great.

We have decided to move the S.E. MI Zeitgeist chapter monthly meeting to the second Sunday of July due to the July 4th holiday falling on the first weekend. That being said; our monthly meeting at the Phoenix Café (24918 John R Rd. Hazel Park, MI 48030) will be on July 10th @ 12:30 PM.

The park has softball, tennis, basketball, baseball, playground equipment, large play fields, volleyball, benches, picnic tables, grills & restrooms.

July 20th

Burzynski, the Movie is the story of a medical doctor and Ph.D biochemist named Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski who won the largest, and possibly the most convoluted and intriguing legal battle against the Food & Drug Administration in American history.
His victorious battles with the United States government were centered around Dr. Burzynski's gene-targeted cancer medicines he discovered in the 1970's called Antineoplastons, which have currently completed Phase II FDA-supervised clinical trials in 2009 and could begin the final phase of FDA testing in 2011–barring the ability to raise the required $150 million to fund the final phase of FDA clinical trials.

When Antineoplastons are approved, it will mark the first time in history a single scientist, not a pharmaceutical company, will hold the exclusive patent and distribution rights on a paradigm-shifting medical breakthrough.

Zeitgeist in the Hazel Park Memorial Day Parade

This Memorial Day (Monday @ 10:00 AM) we have been accepted as a participant for the Hazel Park Memorial Day Parade.

We are calling out for volunteers to help us represent the local chapter of The Zeitgeist Movement this Memorial Day, Monday May 30^th @ 10:00 AM. We will meet at The Phoenix Café at 9:30 to gather ourselves. Please email with any questions, comments, concerns.

During the parade we will simply be walking within the parade holding poster boards that we all individually make along with the 16’ x 4’ & 6’ x 3’ banners that we have. We plan on individually making signs (please inquire if you want to make a poster board to bring, there are strict rules). We will also be prepared with DVDs and postcards as hand-outs. Please help us print postcards (please email for a PDF of postcards)and burn DVDs of ZMF or Addendum if possible.

The dress code for all participants is as follows: We’re trying to get everyone to be in a similar outfit to have a uniform look: White T- shirt / sweatshirt, TZM logo (from www.zeitgeistmediaproject.com) to iron on (you can get the iron-on sheets at any craft store or office supply store such as Michaels or Staples, and any kind of pants / shorts.

We need volunteers to help out for this to be successful. We also need to know that you WILL be attending. Please respond to this email letting us know if YOU CAN attend the parade, confirmations only please.

We may be meeting Sunday at one of our homes or possibly the Phoenix to prepare some of the signs and uniforms. Please also let us know if you would be interested in meeting Sunday (probably mid-day or evening) to help out.

We are looking forward to this event; it will be one hell of a learning experience!

Third Wed Movie Night

The last post had an error in it (now fixed) regarding the next meeting date! The next S.E. MI chapter meeting is the first Sunday of the month (as always) which is May 1st, NOT May 8th (spend May 8th with your Mother!)

Wednesday, April 20th

Instead of having our “first and third Wednesday of the month Z-movie night” at the Phoenix next week, we are relocating this Wed the 20th’s location. “Zero Waste Detroit” is sponsoring a free showing of the prize winning film "Waste Land" at Shed 5 in Detroit's Eastern Market, Wednesday, April 20, from 7:00-9:00 PM. If you plan on attending make sure to bring warm clothes and a folding chair! Please email for more details.

Saturday April 23rd

The Local S.E. MI Zeitgeist Chapter & an organization called LRNA are hosting an open discussion / fundraiser that is free to attend with a suggested donation of $5.00. This will be a forum addressing the social / cultural influence on the political and economic realities. It is Saturday April 23rd from 6:00PM – 8:00PM @ the Phoenix Café. April Meeting Summary / Calendar

Sunday’s meeting was a blast! We had lots of attendees, some regulars, some new.

We discussed the following:

- The Lansing chapter is planning on hosting a state wide Zeitgeist event called: “Zeitgeist under the Sun”. They plan on having members from all of the state chapters attend along with fun and entertainment. Tentatively they planned on this being late May, although, it could be pushed to June due to conflicts in May. Regardless, stay tuned, it should play out to be a great time that you don’t want to miss!

- Movie nights, we have committed to having Z movie nights at least twice a month on the first and third Wednesday at the Phoenix Café. Each movie will of course be Z related or current event related; doors open at 7, movie starts at 7:30. This week’s selection is “China Syndrome”, (A reporter finds what appears to be a cover-up of safety hazards at a nuclear power plant.) Yes it’s not totally Z related, and yes it is fictional, but we thought it would create some good discussion, and many of us have not seen it yet. Movie nights are free to attend but there is a suggested donation of a few dollars to support The Movement and the Phoenix Café.

- Action! The time is perfect to start getting our hands dirty. That being said, we discussed many initiative ideas that we will narrow down to a select few. All of these revolve around community oriented, self-sustainability-oriented projects. We can’t wait to get started and we need your help!

Post Z-Day Update

Once again our apologies for the delay of this post Z-Day update.

As most of you know the event went great; lots of attendees, good food, conversation, presentations, etc… Thank you again to all of you that attended and/or presented (especially Rob that was a great presentation)!

As always, between meetings and events please help to spread the word. With all of the unrest worldwide these are ripe times to spread awareness. Please check out http://www.zeitgeistmediaproject.com/ for a design of your choosing to share vie email and/or print. You can also make it your Facebook main pic for a day; or print it and leave it anonymously for an unsuspecting colleague / family member / friend to find. We also have PLENTY of DVD’s available, please send an email if you’d like us to mail some to you for a donation of your choosing (They cost us about $2.00 to make, so try and donate at least that amount per DVD).

The next local chapter meeting is April 3rd, (as always the first Sunday of the month) same place, same time (see below).

In the meantime the Phoenix Café and an organization called “The League of Revolutionaries for a New America” (LRNA) is hosting a focused discussion forum called “Reform vs. Revolution” this Saturday from 6 – 8 PM. Please read below for more information on the topic. We hope you can make it; this will be a ripe opportunity to spread the Zeitgeist movement's vision and network with open minded individuals.

LRNA is an organization with a similar analysis and vision as Zeitgeist that has also been regularly meeting at the Phoenix Cafe. They are hosting a focused discussion forum there on Saturday, March 26, 6-8pm, with a fundraiser/party afterwards featuring local musicians/poets. They are excited to network with members of the Zeitgeist movement and are actively encouraging our attendance and our ideas. The discussion forum is centered around the topic of "Reform vs. Revolution," examining both the economic and political crises, what to do about them and how to best focus our energy going forward. There is a suggested $5 donation for the fundraiser/party, which is a BYOB/potluck event and will run until at least midnight, so plan on a good time!

Zeitgeist Day (Z-DAY for short) is almost upon us! In case you aren’t 100% familiar with Z-Day, it is an annual, global event day which occurs in the middle of March, each year. The goal is to increase public awareness of The Zeitgeist Movement and The Venus Project. If you are not familiar with the tenets and goals of The Zeitgeist Movement and its relationship to The Venus Project, please see the following information:

We have been very busy planning the details; this is going to be a great time with lots of educational opportunities for everyone.

Please join us for this family friendly day of food, fun & enlightenment.

Z-Day SE Michigan is this Saturday March 12th 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM and will consist of the following:

If you are willing to volunteer please see the list of items we could use some help with below. The main theme of this movement is to spread the awareness of the tenets of The Zeitgeist Movement & The Venus Project. That being said we have attached fliers, Posters, handouts, etc… to the recent e-newsletter, please use them! Feel free to print them out, hang them around your neighborhood, and spread the word! The more people that get involved the quicker this transition will occur!

Volunteer list:
- Print out the posters that have been emailed out and hang them at your local coffee shops and community bulletin boards. Engage the public as to what Z-Day is!
- Print out the transition sheet & actions for social change sheet to add to the literature table on Z-Day.
- Burn DVDs of Zeitgeist Addendum & Zeitgeist: Moving Forward.
- Get to Z-Day Early (10ish) to help set up.
- Volunteer to help run one of the many booths.
- Have a presentation prepared of one of the Venus Project Tenets no more than ten minutes long (see attached tenet sheet).
- Have a “Why I advocate the Zeitgeist movement” presentation prepared (no more than 5 – 7 minutes).
- Tell all of your friends / family / co-workers about Z-Day.

March Update / Z-Day 2011!

For all of you that attended the Zeitgeist Moving Forward screening; thank you once again! For all of you that consistently show your support of The Movement in one way or another; thank you for all that you do! We have finally inputted all of the email addresses that we gathered from the last few meetings and the ZMF screening. The March newsletter went out last night with the Z-Day fliers and "how to create your own chapter" guidelines attached. If you are not on the local chapter's e-newsletter list please send an email to zeitmi@gmail.com and request that you be added.

The next event that our chapter is hosting is Z-Day, Saturday March 12th, 12:00 PM – 8:00 PM (ET) at the Phoenix Café (address below). The event will start with a reception from 12 - 1; we will then give a brief overview of the day’s activities and agenda. There will be pleanty to do and see, you will not leave empty handed or empty minded!

We have created fliers for the event, please send an email to zeitmi@gmail.com to get copies sent to you! We need to get these up anywhere and everywhere! If you don’t like the fliers provided, please feel free to get creative and make your own (please email to us for approval prior to posting) and get it out there!

The next meeting is this Sunday (as always the first Sunday of the month) at the Phoenix Café @ 12:30 PM. We will be discussing Z-Day and Z-Day related initiatives. After the meeting we will then form teams to canvas the streets of the surrounding cities to post the attached fliers and to get the word out.

On another note; a major initiative that we are promoting to the members of the movement is to “Start Your Own Local Chapter”! We have created a sheet that describes the process of starting your own chapter, please let us know if you'd like this emailed to you. We look forward to helping you if you are at all interested in creating a local chapter in your area if there already isn’t one. Our goal is to eventually have a chapter in every city in MI! Post ZMF Release Update - Feb

Sorry for the delay of this post-screening update!

I’m sure by now you have heard that the “Zeitgeist: Moving Forward” release was a wild success and turned into an unprecedented film release premiere! Here are some noteworthy examples of the global impact of ZMF: In S.E. Michigan we had a 275 seat theater over 80% full, not bad! In Vancouver, Canada they booked an 820 seat theater but had about 2,000 people show up! In Serbia the chapter had a 400 seat theater overflowing with people, many people sitting on the floor and in the aisles! The Brazil Chapter is reporting over capacity crowds and booked new screenings in larger venues. India, has reported our largest venue at 2,000 seats at Goa University. The Italian chapter had arguably the biggest TV celebrity in Italy, Paolo Bonolis, attend the Rome screening and publicly express his love for ZMF. He wants to dedicate an episode of his programme, "Il senso della vita", to the Zeitgeist Movement. His show reaches up to 8 million viewers and is among the most watched in Italy. Dozens of broadcasting requests have come in for post Jan 25th television broadcasts, as well as film festival interest.

This Thursday, Jan 20^th @ 7:00 PM, we will be holding the one and only large scale screening in the State of MI, of Peter Joseph’s newest addition to the Zeitgeist series of thought provoking cinema.

Please get your tickets immediately as they are going fast, they are available for pre-sale right now at the Main Art Theater box office for only $5!

Please help us spread the word about this event, even if it is sold out it is very important to keep spreading the word! One that note, one of our chapter members spent a lot of time creating a template for you to send to your family and friends; it is located at the end of this post underneath the title block. Please copy it, paste it in an email, type in your information, and get it out there!

If you have any Zeitgeist related literature that you would like to distribute before and after the film, please bring it! We will have a selection of literature for attendees to take with them, although, we can always use more relevant literature!

It is my honor to invite you to attend a special event bringing together Southeast Michiganders of many different walks of life for a one-time film showing and discussion forum around the visionary "Zeitgeist" movement: this Thursday, January 20th, 7pm at the Royal Oak Main Art Theatre. Titled "Zeitgeist: Moving Forward" (here is an extended trailer), this is the third major film coming out of the Zeitgeist movement, which began in 2007 and has since grown into an international phenomenon raising the consciousness of humanity's true potential beyond the current state of affairs. The film is being released simultaneously this month in 20 languages throughout 60 countries.

"Zeitgeist" is a German word defined as "the spirit of the time; general trend of thought or feeling characteristic of a particular period of time." The tumultuous, unparalleled era of history we now live in could be briefly summed up as an inadequate economic system that is dramatically teetering in the face of technological realities and levels of social consciousness that are both revolutionary in character. This situation has rendered the old systems and institutions obsolete, demanding an entirely new paradigm be created to fulfill our true potential.

If you believe the system as it stands is adequate, that "band-aids" will fix our economic system of unending cyclical debt, that there is no pragmatic potential outside of the current monetary paradigm and that war, hunger, disease and exploitation are merely inevitable consequences of human existence, then this film and this movement is not for you. But if you accept that our system of money and debt is a sham that can and must be dismantled, that it is well within humanity's potential to provide itself with an abundance of the necessities of life (leaving NOBODY behind), that technology can provide such levels of collective liberation and that YOU have something to contribute to such a future, then I emphatically encourage you to attend the regional premier of "Zeitgeist: Moving Forward." This is a one-time showing, Thursday, January 20, 7pm at the Royal Oak Main Art Theatre (118 North Main Street, Royal Oak, MI 48067). The January 2nd meeting was wonderful as always. Lots of great ideas were discussed and a new chapter has bloomed from this meeting! Congrats to the Monroe chapter for all of your hard work! The contact info for the Monroe chapter is at the end of this post.

The SE MI Chapter agenda for the next few weeks is as follows:

This Sunday Jan 9th, 12:30PM – We are gathering at the Phoenix Café at 12:30PM to distribute various posters for Zeitgeist: Moving Forward promotion. We will then disperse and hang as many in the surrounding area for the next hour or so. We also discussed the possibility of meeting at a restaurant / bar afterwards to celebrate the day of promoting.

Next Sunday Jan 16th, 12:30PM– The final meeting at the Phoenix Café @ 12:30PM prior to the movie screening on Jan 20th.

We have lots of good news to share with you!

First, the December fifth meeting went very well, we had a great number of attendees, some regulars and some new. The next meeting will be January 2nd same place, same time (Phoenix Café, 24918 John R Rd, Hazel Park, MI 48030 @ 12:30 PM – 3:30 PM). We will also have a second meeting on January 9th to gather people to hit the streets to get the attached poster into as many public spaces as possible. The meeting place for this initiative will be announced at the January 2nd meeting.

Zeitgeist: Moving Forward Update:

Everything is confirmed! The Royal Oak Main Art Theater has the movie programmed into their system; therefore, pre-sale tickets are available! I already bought twenty tickets to sell to friends, family, co-workers, etc... We suggest that you do the same!
Also, the price has been lowered to $5.00 per ticket in an effort to increase the turnout of the screening.

The autonomous, non-profit, theatrical release of Zeitgeist: Moving Forward is taking shape in an unprecedented way across the world. As of Dec.9th, there are over 100 locations screening in 24 languages across 32 countries starting Jan. 16th... and there were 5 weeks left to go.

Thank you to all who have donated, the members of the local chapter have been very generous. We still have more to do though, which of course costs money… The next monetary goals all relate to the printing and distribution of the promotional poster (if you don't have a copy please email a request for a digital copy that you can print). If you can print some out that’s great, if you can’t and would rather donate funds for printing that’s great too. If you cannot do either but would like to help out please join us at the meeting Jan 2nd to get some of the printed copies to distribute in your neighborhood.

There is going to be a tech screening of this film at an unannounced date and time prior to Jan 20th. If you would like to be one of the first five people to see the movie and to be present at the tech screening here’s your chance. The individual(s) that donate the most funds to the local chapter before January 2nd will be able to sit in on the tech screening. You can donate in person at the meetings, on the local chapter website (http://zeitmi.blogspot.com/) using the chip-in widget, or by mailing your donation to PO BOX 9, New Baltimore, MI 48047. The winner(s) will be announced at the meeting on Jan 2nd.

This Sunday's Meeting / Screening Rally

It’s an exciting time in The Movement! We have very high expectations for the screening of Zeitgeist: Moving Forward showing at the Royal Oak Main Art Theater on January 20^th @ 7:00 PM (ET)! Don’t forget the next meeting is this Sunday at the Phoenix Café, in Hazel Park (24918 John R Rd, Hazel Park, MI 48030) @ 12:30 PM – 3:30 PM.

As members and coordinators it’s time to pitch in and lend a hand. To help the cause we have the following initiatives that we need assistance with:

1) Poster printing and posting. Please print out the poster sent out in the group email or posters and flyers from the selections at www.zeitgeistmovingforward.com. Post them around your community in the right coffee shops, bookstores, community centers, college campuses, and on community bulletin boards. If you do not use the attached flyer, we recommend attaching a simple flyer at the bottom of your poster with the basic details about the event. Leave a stack of flyers at appropriate local businesses and ask if you can place a mini-poster in their window. Try video stores, coffee shops, restaurants, community centers, barbershops/salons, schools, campuses, and anywhere else that your audience likes to hang-out. You can also try placing an ad on local bus systems, on school shuttles, and similar places. Distribute flyers at events with similar themes prior to your event.

2) Social Media. Social networks like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter have become hugely important in reaching certain audiences, and can be especially useful when there’s a Facebook or MySpace group connected to a specific local community such as a university, local organization, etc. We have the event page that you can find at: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=176169042410210#!/event.php?eid=176169042410210 If you have the ability, pleas create your own event page, it’s very easy! You can also embed the ZMF trailer on your website, Facebook, MySpace along with your local screening details. We suggest setting up an “event” and inviting members of your community to forward and distribute the event information to friends. You can also just send a message with the event information to your friends and to groups that might be interested, including links to the zeitgeistmovingforward.com website as well as the gateway at zeitgeistmovie.com. The closer you get to the premiere date, the more advertising needs to be in place. Utilize your FB and YouTube and Newsletters to the maximum during the last days before the premiere.

3) Burn DVD’s. We are in need of Zeitgeist: Addendum DVDs. If you have the ability to burn the DVDs you can find free downloads (Bit Torrent) at http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/. We plan on giving away these DVDs at the screening for a small recommended donation.

4) T-Shirts. We would like to make some t-shirts to give away at the screening for small donations. If anyone has made or can look into making T-Shirts you can go to http://www.zeitgeistmediaproject.com/ for t-shirt designs and ideas. There are companies such as: www.austinincorporated.com that offer pretty reasonable prices on t-shirts.

5) Donate to the cause. We have a widget located above this post that you can use to easily donate. Even if you’re donating one dollar it all adds up! There are over one hundred “members” of this movement in the state. If everyone donated $5.00 this would cover a lot of the venue costs. Zeiteist Moving Forward Venue & Location Confirmed, Chip In Widget

We have confirmed the Royal Oak Main Art Theater, January 20th, 7:00PM (ET), for the screening of Zeitgeist: Moving Forward.

We have created the below widget to attempt to gain some funding for the venue cost and promotional materials. The venue is $785 for four hours and the promotional materials (Posters for venue, flyers for distribution) will cost $200.00+ (The posters are $150.00 themselves!).

If you have ever wanted to be a part of the Zeitgeist Movement here's your chance. Please donate what you can, with all of us pitching in a little we could pull off one amazing evening. As much as we are against the monetary system, unfortunately in today's world you need funds to pull off such an event. Please help by chipping in below!

"Zeitgeist: Moving Forward" Screening Update-
As of this moment we have had many emails with RSVP's. That being said, we will be renting out a venue to screen the new film: "Zeitgeist: Moving Forward" (www.zeitgeistmovingforward.com) the venue to be announced once completely secured. The screening will most likely be on a weekday at 7PM and/or 9pm, from the dates of Jan 15-Jan 24, 2011. The exact date and time to be announced soon.

Even if you can't come to the meetings please do your part to spread the word. Place a post on your FaceBook announcing the movement, send out a few emails showing your friends the main website, every little bit helps! Were hoping to sell out the first event, which would allow us to have multiple screenings, with your help this is very possible!

The New Film (ZMF) & This Sunday's Meeting

It’s time to hit the polls! No, we’re not talking about wasting your time voting for politicians, it’s time to get a count of attendees for the new Zeitgeist film screening in the Metro Detroit Area (www.zeitgeistmovingforward.com)!!

We have begun the process of securing the venue for the Zeitgeist Moving Forward screening mid January. We have what we believe to be the optimum setting for this film, and now we need your help!

If you ever thought: “I’d like to get more involved with the Zeitgeist Movement”, then now is the time to prove it, this is a call to arms!

We need to get as accurate of a count of attendees as possible. That being said, we have set up a poll on the top of this site: http://zeitmi.blogspot.com/. We are asking you to please go to the top of this site and vote on the poll at the top. Only individuals that have signed up to “follow” this blog can vote, and you can only vote once. The deadline for this poll will be Nov 13^th, this should give everyone plenty of time to log on and vote. We are going to count one vote to equal three people, since most people can get at least two of their friends / family / co-workers / acquaintances to join them for the film. If you know for sure that you can get more than three people please just send us an email (zeitmi@gmail.com) rather than using the poll.

If for whatever reason you can not vote or would rather just reply via email please do so (zeitmi@gmail.com). When you reply please note not only that you’re interested, but also how many people you realistically believe you could get to join you.

Once we have an idea of the attendance we will then either rent the facility out for one evening, or if there is enough interest we will be able to run the film multiple times in the month of Jan.

Chapter Update & Nov 7th Meeting

Again we offer our apologies for the lack of communication over the past few months. We hope everyone has been busy spreading the awareness of the Movement independently. At the end of the day that’s what this is all about, each of us doing our part to make as many people aware of this Movement, and the Venus Project tenants, as we possibly can.

As some of you may have heard Peter Joseph is releasing the third Zeitgeist Movie in January 2011. Outside of the continuous awareness spreading which was our main goal we now have our work cut out for us. We plan on screening the movie in at least one location in the Detroit Metro area. This will take plenty of time and resources for everyone involved to organize and promote. If you want to get involved there’s no better time than now!

So, time to get to work!

We will be holding a meeting at the Phoenix Café in Hazel Park (24918 John R Rd, Hazel Park, MI 48030) on Sunday November 7th @ 12:30 PM – 3:30 PM.

This meeting will discuss the past, present, and future of the S.E. MI Local Zeitgeist Movement Chapter. We will also post the topics discussed at the meeting on the blog in case you can’t make it.

There will be many items to announce before the meeting, so expect a few updates after this one.

Our apologies for the lack of communication over the past few months. We have been concentrating on defining our goals and finding possible sources of funding for the local chapter. On that note we do have some possible sources of funding to assist in the production of awareness spreading tools. We will have a meeting in the near future, the date and location is yet to be determined.

We have had this Sunday’s Zeitgeist meeting planned at the Phoenix Café for some time now, but something has come up, the location is changing.

Some of you may or may not know our friend Hans Barbe, but he has supported us greatly throughout the months that we have known him. Hans and his colleagues have provided us with the perfect venue for our meetings / events, and he has attended most of them. He is running for the Michigan Senate, district # 2. Hans is hosting an event that is an attempt to galvanize the spirit, vision and citizenship of our city this Sunday, which is actually a second attempt for decent weather. The first event was last weekend, but it was rained out. The second is this weekend, this Sunday June 6th, 12:00PM, the details are below.

We have chosen to move the Zeitgeist meeting to Hans’s event. Of course the format of the meeting will be greatly relaxed due to the fact that we will be there mainly to support Hans’s event, but we can talk amongst ourselves throughout the event. There will be plenty of time to casually talk about what is on our minds before and after the filming of the speech below. And as a bonus our numbers will be there to help support a good friend that has supported us greatly. The more people the better!

We tried to do this on Memorial Day and got rained on... so we're trying again! This is an open invitation to any and all metro Detroiters to participate in the making of an internet video production meant to galvanize the spirit, vision and citizenship of our city.

Telling a story through images of Detroit and a speech by Hans Barbe, set to the music of Aaron Copeland ("Fanfare for the Common Man"), the final 30 second shot of this video will include any and all who show up at Innate Healing Center on Memorial Day, 3pm, which we will then broadcast far and wide on the internet.

The actual numbers of folks we get to show up will matter to the effectiveness of the production, so we need everyone we can get to come out this Monday!!

All ages, free to attend, food available, drumming/jam sessions, good times. RAIN OR SHINE.

My name is Hans Christopher Barbe and I am a citizen of metro Detroit. I am not a citizen because I have a birth certificate or a social security number or just because I vote. What makes me or any of us citizens is to accept of our responsibility for one another on this shared planet.

Civic responsibility calls us to a way of life in harmony with one another and our planet. Generations past shaped our present way of life, which shapes future generations: every choice we make, every relationship we form, how we eat and maintain ourselves, work and play, celebrate and mourn, contemplate and communicate in so much as to know peace, inside and out, everything we do matters.

As citizens of metro Detroit, our calling demands more than just creating jobs or balancing budgets. As a shared struggle, the profound question of how to create a new way of life for our city is shifting the consciousness of our nation and much of our world. Our calling resounds as a trumpet whose signal can fell the very walls that would keep us from a profound answer.

This summer, a weeklong gathering of some twenty-thousand grassroots activists, organizers, workers, thinkers, visionaries and leaders from across the United States will descend on Detroit, for a convergence called: the US Social Forum. Our downtown area will “provide space to come up with the people’s solutions to the economic and ecological crises.” Pivotal to the movement of World Social Forums, the US Social Forum is organized under the banner slogan: “Another world is possible, Another US is necessary, Another Detroit is happening.”

Understanding that the truest fulfillment of human potential is inextricably tied between us all as a matter of our faith in one another, Detroiters are working together to consciously improve circumstances, enough to have inspired this same faith the world over. Our city, having ascended the very height of industrial revolution and suffered the great depth of working-class struggle, emerges now with the civic resolve to meet its post-industrial evolution.

In this name, we as citizens are forging the example of a society rooted in the spirit of brotherhood, a common destiny that transcends race, color and creed, manifesting what Martin Luther King dreamed would flourish: the “Beloved Community.” April 4th, the date of his assassination, was reclaimed this year by Easter Sunday, reflecting a powerful message:

As martyrs, both King and Christ embodied the notion that neither fear nor threat of death can keep the enduring force of love within us all from creating our world in its true image. This image exposes the pitiful, profit-obsessed outlook propagating from corrupt, corporatist culture as a lie unto itself and to the masses: the emperor has no clothes. We are not meant to reduce our lives, our laws and our labor to serve only so much as a dollar bill. We are not content to sell our souls to the notion that greed and fear are forces great enough to compel us to serve anything less than our human beings.

Hundreds of community gardens providing food and fellowship; dozens of artist and music collectives organizing entire festivals; volunteer corps for literacy training, property restoration and healthcare, sprouting like the plants in the cracks of our pavement are proving all we have to give.

It is in our abilities, our possibilities and responsibilities that we find the way forward, so again my name is Hans Christopher Barbe and I am many things: I'm a young man, a musician, a performer, a teacher, community organizer, small business owner, activist and an aspiring politician as a candidate for the Michigan Senate. The next meeting is THIS SUNDAY, Feb 7^th, 1:30 PM at the Novi Public Library.

We will be discussing current awareness spreading initiatives and the preparation of Z-Day (March 13^th. 12PM - ?, Hazel Park, MI).

Speaking of Z-Day, we proud to announce that we have secured a venue! The planning will be an ongoing task from this moment until March 13^th. We are lacking unlimited resources to make this everything we want it to be (as of this moment), therefore, we need your help!

Some of the ways you can help are:

- Monetary donations

- DVD reproduction

- Graphic design

- Donating free time to do some legwork

- More options will be available during the meeting

The Z-Day event will tentatively consist of the following:

1) Awareness spreading activities the morning of, literally hitting the streets with pre-planned initiatives (We’ve got some great ideas that we will discuss during the next meeting).

2) A welcome / greeting time period where we can all get to know each other in a relaxed setting with food and drink.

3) The next items are still in the works but we would like to either have a screening of at least one of Peter Joseph’s lectures, most likely “where are we going” followed by a discussion of the day’s events and possible team building activities.

The quality of our local Z-Day will be directly proportionate to the amount of funds that can be raised prior to the event. Raising funds will be a main topic of discussion during the next meeting. The Dec meeting was more populated than expected, that being said we have a lot of work to do.

- Many other topics & great conversations in general

As mentioned above we have a lot of work to do. It is great to get together and discuss topics, but the main objective of these meetings is to spread awareness of this movement and the ideas within. To make the world work for 100% of humanity, in the shortest possible time, through spontaneous cooperation, without ecological offense or the disadvantage of anyone.

This is a giant undertaking, and it's just about impossible without YOUR involvement. This is a movement to get you, your friends, your family, your acquaintances, and everyone else in your life aware of what is possible through mass awareness.

The members of The Zeitgeist Movement are fully aware and confident that an abundance of food, housing, education, and energy is not an idealistic dream, but is completely feasible and desirable. We also understand that being critical of the current system without having an underlying vision and a potential direction and solution, is mere complaint. The Zeitgeist Movement offers both critique and possible solutions, as well as being open to other possibilities to improve life on earth.

We hope you will look into our movement and join our efforts in creating a more humane society.

November 8th Meeting

The snowball continues to roll down the hill gaining mass and momentum!

We are very happy to report that this past Sunday's meeting was yet again a great success. We had a decent turn out of attendees some of which were repeat, some that were new.

We want to point out that the next meeting HAS BEEN RE-SCHEDULED, it is now the Third Sunday of the month (Dec20th), 1:00 PM, Novi Public Library, please put it in your schedule.

We opened with introductions as always then went on to discuss our current goals. This led into the topic of the local chapter's mission statement formation which has been a high priority since the last meeting. We should have something for everyone to look at next month.

We also discussed the following:

- The Wayne State Screening is on a temporary holding pattern until we complete one last red tape task. We do not know how long this will take, but we assure you that our contact at Wayne State is working very diligently to make it happen, we will keep you posted.
- We discussed the MI portal site (www.zeitmi.com) and the look / effectiveness. We had some great ideas to improve the page come about during the meeting that we will implement ASAP.
- We discussed our meeting with one of the members of the Green Party SE MI. This meeting went better than we could have expected. We gained a lot of knowledge and further local initiatives, not to mention making a new friend that has pledged the local Green Party's support to our cause.
- We discussed the US Social Forum (USSF) that will be held at Cobo Hall / Joe Louis Arena on June 22 - 26th. As their website states: "The US Social Forum is a movement building process. It is not a conference but it is a space to come up with the peoples’ solutions to the economic and ecological crisis." They are expecting 30,000 + individuals to attend this event from all over the country. We plan on not only being present at the event, but to also help with the organizing of the event in any way possible. - After going over current and past initiatives each member discussed their personal initiatives for a short period of time. Myself, Dave, Matt & Casey all spoke about our current actions. We also discussed some of the actions that members that could not attend are pursuing.

We have been working on the following (not in any particular order):
- Creating / maintaining the general infrastructure of the local chapter.
- The website design / Online presence.
- The Green Party meeting(s).
- Getting involved with the USSF.
- Literature / pamphlet design.
- Attending local concerts that may provide a fertile ground information distribution (Handing out our newly designed pamphlets at the Skinny Puppy concert was a great success).
- Attempting to contact and set up meetings with local & non local celebrities such as Michael Moore, R.A.T.M, and other large names that claim to be working towards similar goals as TZM.
- Designing statements / phrases that we can utilize on our literature that may result in more interest / curiosity.
- Pulling together ideas regarding a local short film that discusses the local problems that we face and offering TZM as a possible solution.
- Other possible venues for a movie screening.
- We discussed Z Day 2010, the fact that we don't have a plan as of this moment, which we need to get working on immediately. It is still a toss-up between planning our own local event or car pooling out to the NYC main event.

As always our goal is to grow this movement to a level of critical mass. This can not be accomplished without YOUR support! We need anyone and everyone to donate somehow. Different ways of donating include your time, talents, resources, a few dollars, etc... This movement has a lot of momentum, but it could be your idea or you donation that helps us achieve our various goals!

There is so much going on within our local chapter that the active members will be meeting more than once a month. If you feel that you would like to get more active or have an initiative that you are personally working on please let us know via email and we can add you to the core mailing list. We will use this list to get quick feedback, request immediate support, and to arrange core member meetings.

The main mailing list that you are most likely already on will continue to be used for general updates, progress reports, calls to action, and main meeting information.

Sunday's SE MI Zeitgeist Meeting / Call to action!

Friends!

In an effort to keep the lines of communication open we wanted to make sure that you are aware that we ARE having our monthly meeting this Sunday as planned. The meeting is at the Novi Public Library at 1:00 PM.

A lot of great things are happening behind the scenes these days, which is mainly what we will be reporting on during the meeting. We have at least five people that are actively working different initiatives and we expect to have some positive reports during the meeting.

We will also be talking about initiatives that we need help with. We will have a number of initiatives that YOU can personally be a part of!

On that same note, many of you have emailed with fire in your hearts, but most of the time that fire obviously, unfortunately subsides. This is obvious due to your lack of communication, attendance, & involvement.

So why is this?

We gave this thought challenge to one of the individuals that has been very active with the chapter (David). After talking at great lengths with active members (and watching a lot of J. Krishnamurti videos) he created the following statement:

Changes in perception can be caused by very subtle occurrences. The simple occurrence of learning a new word can vastly change how one perceives the world. When the cryptic symbols above a door are suddenly perceived as the word “Enter”, a whole new level of possibility, a new opportunity for insight is revealed. Once we perceive, we have the capacity to comprehend. Comprehension however, is only thought. Thought cannot change anything. Thought does not take us through the door. Thought will not bring us into the new realm of insight. Thought/Comprehension is only the key to unlock the door. Action is the child of comprehension, just as comprehension is the child of perception.

Each of us took the first step toward radical (fundamental) revolution of the mind when we decided to change our perceptions by watching the Zeitgeist movies and getting in touch with your local chapter. We were already aware, prior to viewing, that there was a crisis. We are now aware that it is a “crisis in consciousness”. It is “a crisis that cannot, anymore accept the old norms.” Once something is known, it can never be unknown. We can deny it. We can try to forget it, but it will always be there, “like a splinter in your mind”.

Comrades, this is a call to action! We act because the old norms are no longer acceptable, no longer feasible, no longer tolerable, and no longer suitable to a human existence. Once we begin to see the bars of our prison, at what point do we stop trying to escape? I say never! Action must be taken, because we can no longer live the way we did before our perceptions changed. Let us now act together, each of us doing our part, using our unique strengths, using our unique abilities. Each of us was born to play a part in demanding, acquiring, and securing our collective freedom. Our destinies have been crossed, and the movement is gaining momentum. We are one, let us act as one!

David, we applaud your (and J.K.’s) ability to put these thoughts into such clear statements. We hope that the above thoughts may help re-ignite that fire within all that receive this email!

Don’t worry about sending an RSVP, don’t worry about having a plan when you arrive, just show up and be counted!

October 11th SE MI Chapter Meeting

Friends!

The Oct 11th meeting was another great success.

The Novi library turned out to be a wonderful spot to cultivate ideas and catch up on past / present initiatives. We had numerous first time attendees, although, there's still plenty of chairs to be filled!

We discussed the following topics this time around:

- For the newcomers we talked about our current goals and the methods we have discussed and are presently acting on to achieve these goals.
- A few of us gave updates on current activities that we have been working on to further spread awareness. We are finally seeing some of our thoughts turn into actions!
- We discussed a few new awareness spreading ideas.
- We discussed the revision of our literature / handouts. How can we modify these items to further create curiosity, to further motivate self enlightenment? What phrases, quotes, pictures, etc can we utilize to grab more attention?
- On that same thought process we discussed what exactly inspired each of us to get involved and how we can use these thoughts to modify our tools.
- We briefly discussed larger attention getting actions, which lead to the thought of Z Day 2010. We will either hold a large event here or carpool out to the New York event. Everyone was leaning towards something local, although, we need more members to assist in the planning and attending of a large event.
- We had an individual travel from northern MI to learn more about the chapter and how they can form one in their home town. We hope to see this happen in the near future!
- We discussed different movies, books, etc that somehow relate to our cause, and it's amazing how many there are! We will eventually create a list that you can access from the website.
- We also talked about the fact that a few of us are going to visit Venus, FL Halloween weekend. We would like to arrive prepared with some of the main questions that continue to surface and see how Jacque would respond. If you met Jacque, what would you ask him?

We are working hard to create a new SE MI website, and also to create a MI portal that will immediately direct you to the different MI chapter websites the moment you click on www.zeitmi.com. There will be no need to hunt for the different chapter links if you're not from the SE MI area.

The next meeting will be at the same place (Novi Library), November 8th @ 1:00 PM.

All of that being said we get more and more motivated with every meeting that takes place. At first this was just a few friends talking about ideas, this has now turned into a local movement, and is shows no signs of slowing down! There's so much confusion going on in the world right now it couldn't be a better time to get the word out. We live in a very fertile area, if we put in work, we will get attention, it's as simple as that. The more people that we have in attendance, the more ideas from great minds will be available, the more this will grow. We need to know that there are people out there that care. We need to know that YOU are out there! If you are truly pissed off at the establishment, if you are unhappy with the typical shit we deal with day in and day out let's see some feedback! Show us how much you care by getting involved! We have a lot of work to do, we need your help!

What makes you any different than the great minds of the past? What is it that stops you from getting involved? You have a chance to change the world for the better, so what are you waiting for?

It has to start some place; it has to start some time! What better place than here, what better time than NOW!

Sept 13th Meeting

The fourth meeting of the MI chapter was very inspiring! We had multiple repeat attendees that brought many great ideas to the table. Some of the items discussed were:

- THE NEED FOR A CONSISTENT, NON-BAR, SAFE, LARGE, PREFERABLY FREE, CLIMATE CONTROLLED MEETING VENUE. (*More about this below)
- The need for a consistent meeting time and date every month = second Sunday of every month, 12:00 noon.
- Discussion of different media outlets that we have been using to spread awareness and their effectiveness (Facebook, MySpace, Random Forums, Blogspot, etc...).
- "The College Campus Initiative", we have run into a few speedbumps but have formed some new goals to accomplish for the next meeting. If you are a student currently attending any college / university please get in touch, we need your help!
- Creating our own local chapter video piece using sections of other movies / media, still in the works, we need qualified, aware editors willing to lend some expertise!
- We discussed detaching our local chapter from any topics, beliefs, or stances that may eliminate possible interest in the movement.
- Discussion of the previous month's Peter Joseph bi-weekly radio addresses.
- Discussion of recruiting tactics.
- The condensing of the information that is available for hand out. The tri-fold is a beautiful piece of information, but is it too big? Can we spread information with less paper usage?
- We discussed the P.J. London presentation and how it was very well done.
- Discussion of the most potent phrases that we can use on hand outs to create interest & curiosity.
- Discussed the formation of the Western MI website (http://zeitgeistmiwest.webs.com/) and how well done it is, way to go Cider!
- That led to a discussion of how we can improve this website, which is in the works!

*The main goal at this point other than spreading awareness to the general public is to find a consistent, free, sheltered, non-bar, large, safe venue to host our meetings at. We have searched high and low but this has proven to be very challenging. Please email any thoughts you have on this topic ASAP! Detroit has proven to be pretty central to all attendees, but other areas are open for discussion.

The next meeting as discussed above is Sunday the eleventh of October at 1:00 PM. As we continue to search for a venue we will update the site and send a mass email ASAP regarding the location.

We expect the Fifth meeting to be well attended, therefore, it will be very important for you to send a note if you do plan on attending. We will have to make sure the chosen venue is large enough.

We need people with diverse ideas that are serious about making a difference! We need YOU to get involved!

Third Meeting

Friends!

Our apologies for the delay in updating the site.

The third meeting was the most productive and had the highest attendance so far! We are very thankful to the people that are making the effort to come out and support the cause!

We had a number of great conversations about the format of future meetings, mainly how to eliminate tangents and to be as productive as possible. We discussed a number of different ways of spreading awareness on a larger scale, some of the topics were: setting up a booth at schools & universities, concerts & sporting events and also speaking in front of groups that have similar focus (such as Rotarians, the Green Party, etc...).

Another topic revolved around the different media that has enlightened our lives. On that same note we would like to create a video that is a quick summary of different medias that are concise and effective. That being said, taking parts of the Z movies and a few others like "The Story of Stuff" and making it somewhat user friendly to be educated about the obvious issues in our world and what we can do about it. One of the attendees is skilled in video editing and has begun this process.

We had a nice demographic that represented a good amount of the generations that exist. People from High School through middle aged individuals. This was great in that everyone brought a different perspective to the table.

At the end of the meeting everyone was very excited and inspired. Once again thank you to all that came out.

On a side note, we would like to create a mailing list & database of interested individuals that are committed to the movement. This will also allow us to send email updates between meetings. Please send an email if you would like to be added to the list, we will send a mass email towards the end of next week to update our current progress with the current action items. Of course this will be duplicated on this site. Please include as much info about yourself as possible especially what general area you reside in so we can find the most convenient city to meet in for everyone. Another topic you might include are personal strengths & resources that you'd be willing to donate to the local movement.

The fourth meeting will most likely be held in a different location, probably in the Auburn Hills / Rochester area in a library, public park, something of this nature. A few individuals mentioned that the bar atmosphere may not be the best atmosphere and it may effect the attendance levels.

The next meeting will most likely be early September. Please send any feedback on locations, times, dates, anything that can help us help you make the meeting.

In the mean time please do not hesitate to comment below or send us emails about thoughts for the next meeting or just pertinent thoughts in general.
